MountainSpirit
注：《抱朴子》：「山精形如小兒，獨足向後，夜犯人，呼其名則不能犯。」Note:BaoPuzisaid,“Themountainspirit,likeakidinfigure,withonlyonefootwhichextendsbackward,attackspeopleatnight,butitwillstopattackingwhenitsnameiscalled.1.孫太白嘗言：其曾祖肄業於南山柳溝寺，麥秋旋里，經旬始返，啟齋門，則案上塵生，窗間絲滿。SunTaibaievernarratedatruestory:Hisgreat-grandfather,inhisyouth,studiedintheLiugouTempleofSouthMountain.Duringthewheatharvest,hewenthometohelp.Tendayslater,hereturnedtothetemple.Openingthestudy,hefoundhisdeskcoveredwithdustandspiders’silkhangingbeforethedirtywindows.2.命僕糞除，至晚始覺清爽可坐，乃拂榻，陳卧具。扃扉就枕，月色已滿窗矣。Hetoldhisservanttomakecleaningthroughly.Towardsevening,hefoundtheairinsidemuchfresher,sohemadethebedandlaidoutthebeddings.Thenhelockedthedoorandlieddowntosleep,withmoonlightfullofthewindows.3.輾轉移時，萬籟俱寂，忽聞風聲隆隆，山門豁然作響，竊謂寺僧失扃；注念間，風聲漸近居廬；俄而房門闢矣，大疑之。Helayoverandoverinbedforsometimeandallwasquiet.Suddenly,heheardagustofwindblowup,makingthetemplegaterumblingviolently.Hethoughtthemonkmusthaveforgottentoboltthegate.However,ashewaspondering,thesoundofwindgotclosertothestudy.Afterashortwhile,thestudydoorwasblownwidelyopen.Hefeltmorethanpuzzled.4.思未定，聲已入屋；又有靴聲鏗鏗然，漸傍寢門，心始怖。Stillinthinking,heheardthewindhadblownintotheroom,andtheclangedsoundsofbootswasapproachingthedoorofthebedroom.Sohefeltfrightened.5.俄而寢門闢矣，急視之，一大鬼鞠躬塞入，突立榻前，殆與梁齊；面似老瓜皮色，目光睒閃，繞室四顧；張巨口如盆，齒疏疏長三寸許；舌動喉鳴，呵喇之聲，響連四壁。Soon,thedoorwasopened,andhehastilylookedatit.Hesawahugeghostpushingitswayinwithastoop.Suddenlystandingbeforehisbed,theghostroseuptotheroof,anditsfacetookonthecolorofanoldmelonskin.Itlookedaroundtheroomwithtwinklingeyes.Itopeneditsbasin-likemouth,andsomesparseteethappeared,morethanthreeincheslong.Ajarringsoundcamefromitsthroat,echoesringinginthewholebedroom.6.公懼極，又念咫尺之地，勢無所逃，不如因而刺之，乃陰抽枕下佩刀，遽拔而斫之。Greatlyfrightened,hethoughthecouldn’tfleeawayfromsoshortdistance,sohedecidedtostabitbysurprise.Quietlyholdingtheknifeunderthepillow,heabruptlydrewitoutandslashedtheghost.7.中腹，作石缶聲。鬼大怒，伸巨爪攫公；公少縮，鬼攫得衾，捽之，忿忿而去。公隨衾墮,伏地號呼。Stabbingonthebellybrokeoutstonepot-likesounds.Greatangrily,theghostreachedhugeclawstosnatchhim.Heshrankabitbackwards,sotheghostsnatchedupthequiltandliftedupandthenleftangrily.Meanwhile,fallingtotheground,helaypronetoshoutoutloudly.8.家人持火奔集，則門閉如故；排窗入，見狀,大駭。Holdingtorches,hisfamilygallopedthereandfoundthedoortightlyshut,sotheybrokeinthethroughthewindow.Atthesightofhim,theyweremuchastounded.9.扶曳登牀，始言其故。共驗之，則衾夾於寢門之隙。啟扉撿照，見有爪痕如箕，五指着處皆穿。Hisfamilyhelpedhimtositinbed,thenhewasabletoexplainwhathappenedtohim.Examiningtogether,theyfoundthequiltcaughtinthecrackofthebedroomdoors.Openingthedoorstocheck,theysawdustpan-likeclawprints,andfivepiercedholesbyitssharpfingers.10.既明，不敢復留，負笈而歸。後問僧人，無復他異。Atthedawn,hedarednotcontinuetolivethereagain,andhastilyreturnedhomewithhisbook-box.Afteralongtime,heinquiredmonks,andtheytoldhimnosuchhorriblethinghappenedagain.此篇结束！
